Type 6021 Lathe Suspension Toolpost
The Agnew Analog Reference Instrument Type 6021 Disk Recording Lathe Suspension Toolpost is intended for retrofit on vintage machines such as Presto and Fairchild lathes, to allow a much greater degree of parameter adjustment, compatibility with a wide range of cutter heads and a substantial improvement in performance and sound quality through increased structural rigidity and a built-in oil dashpot for vertical stabilization.
The Type 6021 is fully machined from a solid piece of an aluminum alloy, commonly used in the aerospace industry for its special properties. It is normally mounted on the moving member of the suspension unit, offering a precise slot for the accurate positioning and rigid mounting of the cutter head. In combination with our Series 1400 range of cutter head mounting adapters, pretty much any head can be mounted on the type 6021.
The head mount slot is an evolution and improvement of the Neumann head mounting system, still allowing adjustment of vertical positioning, while offering a considerable increase in structural rigidity. The tilt angle is accurately and repeatably defined by the use of a wedge-shaped head mounting bar, permanently formed to the desired angle. We can supply such bars to any angle required.
Our version of the slot mount was inspired by metalworking lathe toolposts, which need to rigidly and reliably hold the cutting tool in position, while being able to withstand the cutting forces without deformation or resonances. We can also supply variants of the Type 6021, to any dimensions required for your machine or project. Please write with your specifications for a quote.
